This sphere is carved from high-density obsidian found in Mount Ararat, Turkey. This volcanic material cooled at an extremely slow rate, making it much harder and heavier than most of the obsidians found around the world. Ancient people created art objects, scrapers, and surgical tools from this unique material more than 10,000 years ago.
